An ASO MCP server lets an AI assistant such as Claude, Cursor or Codex read App Store optimization data through the Model Context Protocol, so you can ask "where does my app rank in Germany today?" and get an answer from real data instead of a guess. TrackASO runs a hosted ASO MCP server at `https://trackaso.app/api/mcp` with 14 tools (rankings, keyword history, research, competitor gaps, reviews, the weekly plan); you create a key in Settings → API & MCP, paste one config block, and there's nothing to install or keep running.
Hosted MCP vs a GitHub repo
Open-source MCP servers on GitHub are a good option if you want to tinker. The difference with a hosted server tied to a rank tracker is history: a local script can look up the App Store right now, but it can't tell you what moved since yesterday unless something has been checking every night. TrackASO checks every tracked keyword every night in the cloud, so the assistant can read 90 days of daily history.
Connect it (about two minutes)
1. Create a key in TrackASO under Settings → API & MCP. It's shown once; keep it like a password.
2. Claude Code, one line in a terminal:
```bash claude mcp add --transport http trackaso https://trackaso.app/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" ```
Cursor: save as `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (one project):
```json { "mcpServers": { "trackaso": { "url": "https://trackaso.app/api/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY" } } } } ```
Claude Desktop uses the small `mcp-remote` bridge (Node.js required), and Codex and other clients add a remote Streamable HTTP server with the same header. Full blocks are on /docs/mcp.
3. Check it works: ask "List my TrackASO apps."
The 14 tools
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
| list_apps | Your tracked apps with ids and ratings |
| get_rankings | Current rank, day-over-day change, popularity estimate and difficulty per keyword |
| keyword_history | Daily rank history for one keyword |
| add_keywords | Starts tracking keywords; first ranks fetched immediately |
| research_keyword | Live research for any term: popularity estimate, difficulty, current top 10 |
| suggest_keywords | App Store autocomplete suggestions for a seed |
| optimize_keywords | Packs candidate phrases into the 100-byte keyword field |
| keyword_opportunities | Quick wins, terms to defend, reachable and long-shot terms |
| get_weekly_plan | 3 searches to win now, a subtitle (≤30 characters) and keyword field (≤100 bytes) |
| get_reviews | Recent reviews per storefront, with counts and 30-day average |
| keyword_gap | Searches where followed competitors are top 10 and you aren't |
| list_competitors | Competitors you follow |
| follow_competitor | Follow a competitor (up to 5 per app) |
| refresh_rankings | Re-check now (keywords last checked more than 6 hours ago) |
Daily allowances for live App Store lookups: research_keyword 100, suggest_keywords 200, refresh_rankings 20 (reset 00:00 UTC). Up to 120 requests a minute per account. Source: /docs/mcp.
Questions that work well
- "Where does my app rank in Germany today, and what moved since yesterday?"
- "Which three searches should I go after this week?"
- "Research 'habit tracker' in the UK: who's in the top 10 and how hard is it?"
- "Fit these phrases into my 100-byte keyword field."
In Claude, ready-made jobs appear as slash commands such as `/trackaso:weekly_review`. A full weekly loop is in How to automate your App Store optimization with Claude and MCP.
Why the data matters more than the model
Without real App Store data, an assistant suggests big generic terms. With your positions and the rating counts of each search's top 10 (see keyword difficulty), it can pick searches you can win at your size.
Which ASO tools have an API or MCP server? (vendor pages, Oct 13, 2026)
| Tool | REST API | MCP server | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| TrackASO | No public REST API | Yes, hosted (14 tools) | Included in the Indie plan, from $9.99/month or $79.99/year |
| AsoBeast | Yes | Yes | "REST API and MCP server" on both plans (pricing) |
| Ascope | Not listed | Yes, runs on your Mac | "MCP server, included in Pro" (ascope.app) |
| ASO Pulse | Yes ("LLM-friendly REST API") | Not listed | Pay per check (aso-pulse.com) |
| AppTweak | Yes | "MCP Access" listed | Enterprise pricing, from €79/month Essential (pricing) |
| Open-source repos on GitHub | Varies | You run it yourself | Usually live lookups only, no stored history |
"Not listed" means I didn't find it on that vendor's page. If you need plain HTTP endpoints for your own scripts or dashboards, TrackASO isn't the right fit today. Pick a tool with a REST API. If you mostly want Claude, Cursor or Codex to read your ranks and history, a hosted MCP server is the quicker setup.
What makes a good ASO MCP server for AI coding agents
- Stored history, so the agent can answer "what moved since last week?" and not just "where am I now?"
- Write tools as well as read tools (add keywords, follow competitors), so the agent can act on its findings.
- Clear daily limits for live App Store lookups, so an agent loop can't run up surprise costs.
- Nothing to keep running. A hosted server keeps working when your laptop is closed.
FAQ
What is an ASO MCP server? A server that exposes App Store optimization data (rankings, keyword research, reviews) to AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol, so Claude, Cursor or Codex can answer ASO questions from real data.
Do I need to install anything to use TrackASO's MCP server? No. It's hosted at https://trackaso.app/api/mcp. Claude Desktop needs the small mcp-remote bridge, which requires Node.js.
Which assistants work with it? Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and other clients that support a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server.
How many tools does the TrackASO MCP server have? 14, including get_rankings, keyword_history, research_keyword, keyword_gap, get_reviews and get_weekly_plan.
Is the MCP included in the price? Yes. The MCP is part of the Indie plan, from $9.99/month or $79.99/year, taxes may apply.
Are there ASO tools with an API or MCP server? Yes. TrackASO has a hosted MCP server (no public REST API). AsoBeast lists both a REST API and an MCP server, ASO Pulse lists a REST API, Ascope lists a local MCP server in Pro, and AppTweak lists an API and MCP access (vendor pages, Oct 13, 2026).
What is the best ASO MCP server for AI coding agents? One that serves stored rank history, not just live lookups, has clear daily limits, and needs nothing kept running. TrackASO's hosted server has 14 tools and 90 days of daily history. If you need a REST API as well, AsoBeast lists both.
Does TrackASO have a REST API? No public REST API. Access for scripts and assistants is through the hosted MCP server.
